First run in 12 days…

Today was my first real run since my ten miler, mostly due to illness. I was scared that I won’t be able to complete & would have to stop early but some pep talk by my super-friend, good tunes & a positive attitude got me through 🙂

In slimming news, I’ve lost weight the last 2 weeks in a row so am hoping for a third week.

I don’t really have a lot else to say…

I lost a week…

… Somehow I lost a whole week. Partly because of a cold & partly because of laziness.

I went to track night last night & we were working on our 5k pace.

– 800m’s at 27 min 5k pace with a 1 min recovery in-between for 18 mins

– 200m’s sprint tag so recovery was waiting for the other 2 people to run around the track for 10 mins

As I’ve had a week off running & cold, I really struggled with this. I managed to run 3 x 800m’s but the thought of another 800m’s was impossible. So I walked back & forth waiting for the time to finish. I did however manage to run the 800m’s in 4.16 mins at least the first 2 times and then I completed the sprinting part of the track night so I was happy in the end. Hot & sweaty but happy 🙂

Thursday tempo run

On the plan for Thursday was a 40 min tempo run. I’m still learning about running so my version of a tempo run went like this:

10 min warm up
10 mins @ 9-9.30 min miles (I struggle to stay consistent
5 mins recovery jog
10 mins @ 9-9.30 min miles
10 min cool down

I really need someone to tell me exactly how far/ fast I should be running so I don’t have to make it up!!

It was haaaard. I had a talk myself through the second 10 mins along the lines of ‘ok, if you can do 5 mins, you can stop’ ‘well you’ve made it to 5 mins, I’m sure you can make another 5’ which worked 🙂

The worst thing happened…

… my silly Garmin wouldn’t pick up a signal so after jogging for 5 mins & getting no signal, I gave up & used the stopwatch feature instead. So I have no idea how far I went or speed but I think it did me good.

I really I mean REALLY enjoyed my 40 min easy run yesterday despite the rain that started as drizzle & ended in a downpour & it being dark. This is because I had some peace & quiet after a hectic day at work!!!

Is it a good thing that I no longer dread my 40 min easy runs & feel like I could keep going? This was the question I asked my husband whilst stretching on the kitchen floor. He just looked at me with a ‘yes of course stupid’ look & similar answer!! 🙂

I think I’m obsessed…

I’ve already picked/ planned my races for next year!!

March- half marathon
April- 10k, maybe London Marathon if I get in
August- 10k
Sept- Half marathon <Curious to know which half I was talking about as I can't remember now. I believe it may have been Run to the Beat but after seeing last year's reviews, I'll give it a miss)
October- Half marathon

Plus any others I can enter!!

September challanges

I know it’s the 4th already but I’ve decided to set myself some challenges for September. Here they are:

Diet- To regain my 2 1/2 stone loss at Slimming World. At last WI that was 5lbs away but I have been away since then.

Fitness- To carry on with my 1/2 marathon training in 5 1/2 weeks EEK

Work- To sort my CV out to apply to do a course that will help with my work

Life- I can’t really decide but I think updating my blog more than once a month might be a better start!

Money- Not to use my credit card/ savings this month & to have some money left at the end! As long as nothing goes wrong (car/ washing machine the last 2) then I have budgeted well

Been a long time…

I haven’t been very good at blogging but having been reading other blogs for a while now, I thought I’d use this time to update on my running.

Going back to my previous post, I’m pleased to announce I completed my first ever 10k race back in April 2013 in 1 hour 9 mins and **secs. I have another 10k race coming up in a few weeks that I hope to complete in under an hour. This is in preparation for a half marathon I’ve signed up too in October- eek. Whenever I think about it I have nervous/ excited butterflies in my stomach!! 6 miles is still the furthest I’ve ever run but I’m following the new 12 week plan properly this time. I’ve also invested in some Saucony runner trainers and proper running clothes! Plus my favourite gadget- a Garmin Forerunner 10 🙂 It’s purple and I love it.

I worked out yesterday that I’ve spent £267 on running gear but it’s the first real hobby I’ve had in a long time so I think it’s worth it. I pointed out to my husband that I have a long way to go to catch up with how much he spends on his hobbies 🙂

Today’s song that’s stuck in my head

Pinch, punch, first of the month

Hello,

My first week of my 10K training was great. I managed, 1 indoor run, 2 outdoor runs and to stick to my plan 🙂

The second week is not going so well. I have a large, uncomfortable blister on my toe so I decided to let the blister heal before trying to carry on my running plan. I know I need to buy new trainers but I can’t afford them this month *sigh*

In other news, I lost another 1lb at weigh in this week bringing my total to 2 1/2 stone. Very pleased and proud as it’s the lowest weight ever as an adult. I also finally fit into my size 10 jeans, am an S on top AND bought some new snowboarding trousers in an S. I’ve never been a Small anything, but I’m happy & proud to say I am now.

I am starting to get the ‘stop losing weight’ ‘you’re looking a bit thin’ comments now. Erm, I’m actually still over-weight & will not be stopping losing weight until I am at least 7lbs below the maximum weight I ‘should’ be for my height. I don’t know why people think it’s ok to try to tell me not to lose anymore weight, they didn’t comment when I was over-weight so I’m not interested in their opinion now.

I don’t want to leave on a grumpy note, so I’ll leave you with a line from a song that’s been in my head for a few days…
